The Price We Pay For Wings

Books have the power to shape young lives. At least that is the hope of the anonymous author of a best-selling series about a Muggle boy and his best friend on the eve of a world war. But stories do more than just shape the future: they can redress the wrongs of the past as well. But only as long as it’s not too late…

This story parallels the H/D generation with that of their kids and the impending third wizarding war. It’s melancholy and poetic and heart-wrenching. I listened to the audiobook.

Delicate Sound Of Thunder

Sequel to A Thousand Beautiful Things

Draco knows that happily ever after is for fairy tales. When someone threatens to expose his wartime past, he risks his life to protect his secrets, but learns he’s not the only one with something to hide.

So something dodgy’s going on in the settlement of the Malfoy inheritance. Snape (whom I absolutely adore in this world) and Hermione team up, Harry gets some information of his own and Draco’s caught between a rock and a hard place.

For me it’s a bit too mysterious and there isn’t enough magic, although it is very well written and a satisfying accompaniment to ATBT.

A Thousand Beautiful Things

Draco Malfoy struggles with changed fortunes, shifted alliances, an ugly war, and an unusual spell, with the help of a concerned professor, an insightful house-elf, and an unexpected Gryffindor friend.

It’s a very hard story to tag because it literally has everything. It (chronologically) begins when Draco decides to become a spy for the Order after being shocked by the cruelness of his father and undergoes intense training with Snape. Within the first three chapters of nine the war is over and everyone’s licking their wounds, including two of the story’s main characters Dean and Seamus. The main plot revolves around Draco taking on a vow of silence, and not for the reasons the Wizarding World believe.

There’s something for everyone but not everything for someone, I particularly liked chapters two and seven.

Dormiscere

Harry can’t sleep, Draco won’t sleep. Harry can’t stop staring, Draco won’t stop running away. And Harry is starting to think that somehow, it’s all connected…

Transfigurations

Five years after Voldemort’s defeat, Harry returns to England to help re-open Hogwarts but he and the other professors have a bigger job on their hands than first anticipated.

This is one of the most highly rec’d Drarry fics ever, it’s terribly well written and characterised and there’s a lot of complex magic introduced around sigils. I just felt like the main plot line didn’t feel like grounds for a whole novel as it’s basically just cleaning up after You-Know-Who and Lucius. Worth a read but not an all time fave for myself. Plus it needs more sex :)

Paradigm

Draco is a rentboy and Harry can’t get enough of him after discovering his secret on the trail of an Auror job. This is not a typical rentboy story.

Seeker To Seeker

What begins as a slashy bet on the Quidditch field soon develops into something much more significant. Essentially it’s like Starts With A Spin but with bets on one-on-one Quidditch games and doesn’t start off so tamely.

Starts With A Spin

It started with the spin of a bottle, and now Harry and Draco have gotten themselves so far into their own game there’s almost no way out again. Except to keep playing.

Endlessly enthralling and entertaining and realistic.

Double Edged Sword

Harry thinks his life has been planned out, but the night he comes of age changes everything. Now there are decisions to be made and a path to be chosen, and the choices before him will change the lives of everyone he knows. But when destiny calls, Harry finds himself ready to listen.

One of my first long drarry fics. It’s an alternative to deathly hallows and is just incredible in mass; not the traditional magical world you know and love, this guides through Durmstrang and its sister school Magisch Schön, rebuilding Godric’s Hollow and some crazy horcrux-searching. The beginning drags a lot, there’s a good 40k words before we even meet Draco, taken up by Ginny, and then there’s some weird destiny symbolic crap but it eventually develops into pure fantasy.

Dragon Tamer

Desperate to avoid an arranged marriage, Draco convinces Harry to pretend to be his boyfriend. What follows is an epic romantic comedy involving scheming, snogging, silliness, shagging, snarky boys, superstars, singing, shagging, snuggling, secrets, sex gods, shagging, and a bunny named Draco Lucius Malfoy the Third.
